The cells indicated by the blue arrows in these images are monocytes. The monocytes shown are mature and reactive with many cytoplasmic vacuoles and a few azurophilic granules. Reactive monocytosis of this type is typical in many chronic infectious and inflammatory conditions, including regional enteritis (Crohn's disease), tuberculosis, and sarcoidosis.
