Disorders and Diseases Associated With Increased Monocytes

The cells indicated by the blue arrows in these images are monocytes. The monocytes shown are mature and reactive with many cytoplasmic vacuoles and a few azurophilic granules. Reactive monocytosis of this type is typical in many chronic infectious and inflammatory conditions, including regional enteritis (Crohn's disease), tuberculosis, and sarcoidosis.
