Introduction to Workplace Violence

Humanity has always been associated with violence, from wars, civil unrest, cultural and religious conflicts to domestic disputes and workplace strife.
But what is workplace violence exactly? OSHA defines workplace violence as "any physical assault, threatening behavior, or verbal abuse occurring in the work setting."
Examples of workplace violence include, among others:
  • Beatings
  • Stabbings
  • Suicides or attempted suicide
  • Shootings
  • Rapes
  • Psychological traumas
  • Threats or obscene phone calls
  • Intimidation
  • Harassment of any nature
  • Being followed, sworn or shouted at
This course is meant to provide information on how to recognize, prevent, and respond to workplace violence in a healthcare setting.
