Defining Solutions

A solution is a mixture of a solvent and solute. The solvent is the liquid into which a solute is diluted or dissolved. Solutes may be solids, such as dry chemicals, or liquids. Solvents can be a variety of liquids from deionized water to organic liquids.
There are several ways to express solutions and their concentrations including relative percent concentration, molarity and normality.
