Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA): Clinical Applications

PSA has been widely and successfully used as a tumor marker for prostate cancer and has utility in:
  • Early detection of prostate cancer
  • Staging of prostate cancer
  • Monitoring effectiveness of treatment
  • Monitoring for recurrence
Each of these applications will be briefly discussed to provide an example of how the same component may be used at several stages of the disease process to guide a physician from diagnosis through treatment monitoring.
