Cytogenetics laboratories usually perform FISH on metaphase slides and therefore, they have the necessary equipment to perform FISH assays with the exception of the microtome.
Histology laboratories and immunohistochemistry laboratories will have the necessary equipment to perform FISH assays, with the possible exception of the fluorescent microscope. If the immunohistochemistry (IHC) laboratory performs immunofluorescence assays, they will have the fluorescent microscope.
Reagent preparation and proper storage is a critical component of performing FISH assays. The equipment necessary is as follows:
- pH meter
- Balance
- Stir plate
- Microcentrifuge
- Refrigerator
- Freezer
