Posterior or dorsal	Back
Superior	Above
Inferior	Below
Lateral	Side
Distal	Farthest from midline
Proximal	Nearest to midline
Medial	Middle
Supine	Face or palm up
Prone	Face or palm down
Sagittal	Vertical plane; divides the body into equal right and left sides
Transverse	Horizontal plane; divides the body into top and bottom sections
Coronal	Vertical plane; divides the body into front and back sections
