The benign inflammatory metabolic diseases covered in this course include non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis, and amyloidosis, which are all diagnosable with the use of histology/morphology assessment, with the exception of Wilson's disease. Liver biopsies for these diseases will demonstrate characteristic histologic findings by light or electron microscopy. Of course, there are additional diseases not outlined, as this course just covers a few of the more common diseases. There are additional metabolic liver diseases, however, in which a liver biopsy alone is not diagnostic for these diseases. Examples of such diseases are galactosemia and tyrosinemia, which are commonly found included in newborn screening blood tests.
