Current Cardiac Biomarkers

The current cardiac biomarkers that we will discuss are listed below. Some of these markers, specifically CK-MB, have become somewhat obsolete while others, such as hs-troponin, are in the very early stages of clinical use.
  • Troponin I (cTnI)
  • Troponin T (cTnT)
  • CK-MB
  • Myoglobin (rarely used)
  • CK Isoforms (never used for routine work-ups, mainly of academic interest)
  • BNP and NT-proBNP
  • high-sensitivity troponin (hs-trop)
