The ADA states on its web site, "Our mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes."
Other important agencies and studies referred to in this course are:
  • International Diabetes Federation (IDF): An alliance of 200 diabetes associations; acts as a global advocate for individuals with diabetes.
  • World Health Organization (WHO): An arm of the United Nations; provides programs for prevention, treatment, and care of those with diabetes worldwide.
  • Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT): A major clinical study 1983-1993; proved the correlation between control of glucose blood level and lowered onset and severity of the complications of diabetes.
