As soon as the donor gives the specimen to the collector, the collector must check for three things:
- Specimen is within acceptable temperature range.
The acceptable temperature range is 90-100°F or 32-38°C.- Volume of specimen is sufficient.
A minimum of 45 mL is required for Federally-Regulated collections; 30 mL for Non-Federally Regulated collections.- There are no signs of tampering or adulteration of specimen.
Check for unusual color, presence of foreign objects or material, and unusual odors such as bleach.
