Causes of hemolysis

  • Hemolysis can be caused by:
  • Shaking the tube too hard.
  • Using a needle that is too small.
  • Pulling back too hard on a syringe plunger.
  • Pushing on a syringe plunger too hard when expelling blood into a collection device.
