Selection of Drugs for Testing

The panel of drugs selected for testing must take into consideration a number of factors:
  • The laboratory performing the testing
  • The number of drugs that can practically be tested
  • Infection control requirements
  • Drugs that are available in formularies
  • Susceptibility patterns exhibited locally (may be documented in the form of an antibiogram)
  • Consideration of the body site of the infection and whether the drug is an appropriate therapy
