Testing personnel who perform any aspect of patient testing, including pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic, must be assessed for competency on all aspects of job performance. Personnel evaluations do not qualify as competency assessment.
Personnel fulfilling federal regulatory responsibilities, including clinical consultant, technical consultant, technical supervisor, and general supervisor must have competency assessed on their federal regulatory responsibilities. These personnel must also be assessed on patient testing involvement, if appropriate. The Laboratory Director is not required to have a competency assessment.
