Signs & Symptoms

The signs and symptoms of osteoporosis may be silent. That is they do not manifest themselves until a bone is fractured. Men and women with the disease most often break bones in the hip and spine. Some of the subtle signs of osteoporosis include:
  • Back pain, caused by a fractured or collapsed vertebra
  • Loss of height over time
  • A stooped posture
  • A bone fracture that occurs much more easily than expected
