Summer Evening (in Vermont)
The rivulets hasten with clinging sound
deeper and deeper into the ground.
The birds are singing, the sun shines bright,
I feel so peaceful, happy, and light.
I hear the silence in the trees,
around the flowers hum the bees,
the air is clear, the breeze is cool,
oh world, you are so beautiful!
On woods and meadows dusk sinks down
enveiling us in its silken gown.
A distant sighing here and there,
I hear the silence everywhere.
The moon returns to his nightly task,
he shines on us, we cannot ask.
Deep the shadows, high and low,
time is passing still and slow.

Somera Vespero en Vermonto
La riveretoj hastas sonorile
Profunden--pli profunden--el la vid'.
Kantas birdoj, suno lumas brile,
Regas ĉie pac', feliĉ', kaj rid'.
Silenton inter arboj mi ja aŭdas,
Abelo zumas ĉirkaŭ bela flor'.
Purajn aeron, venton mi aplaŭdas:
Belas mondo rekte al la kor'.
Super arb', kampar', krepusko venas,
Vestas nin per silka pluŝkomfort'.
Fora suspirado nun min benas,
Silenton aŭdas mi, ho bela sort'!
La luno faras ĉiunoktlaboron--
Li superlumas nin eĉ sen demand'.
Profundaj ombroj kovras mian koron,
Tempo pasas dolĉe en ĉi land'.

Pepas la birdoj. La suno brilante
plaĉas min; ĉirkaŭ mi paco ŝvebanta.
La arboj silentas, kaj ĉirkaŭ la floroj
abeloj laŭtzumas. Feliĉaj la koroj
pro brizoj lanmolaj kaj klara aer',
beleco senfina kuŝanta sur ter'.
Krepuskas herbeje, en boskoj mallum',
Tegiĝas la mondo per nigra stratum'.
Suspiroj distancaj, blovetoj de vent'
Obtuzas, mallaŭtas ĝis restas silent'.
La luno deĵoras fidela al dev'
alporti lumeton al fulga planed'.
Ĉieas la ombroj kaj dormas la mond'.
Trankvilas la nokto, la bestoj kaj hom'.
