Dark Precipitate On The Slide
If the hematoxylin is used beyond its' expiration date or has been improperly stored (excessive heating or freezing) it will show signs of deteriortion in the form of black precipitate scattered throughout the section.
Proper storage and attention to expiration dates will prevent this problem. Manufacturer's of H&E provide guidelines for storage requirements and shelf-life.
