Further Analyses for Coagulation Inhibitors (cont.)

When considering the presence of a coagulation factor inhibitor other than the common lupus anticoagulant, specific inhibitors such as anti-Factor VIII should be considered.

Titers can be performed for the antibody in question to quantify the inhibitor and determine the extent of the antibody proliferation. These tests are called Bethesda titer assays. These tests use a universal inhibition unit in measuring specific-factor antibody activity. The appropriate dosing of medications may be measured based on these titer results.
