  • Thalassemias are named according to the affected gene or globin chain which is showing reduced or absent synthesis.

  • Globin chain loci are found on
    • chromosome 11 (Beta, Delta, Epsilon, and Gamma)
    • chromosome 16 (Alpha, and Zeta)
