TDM for Anticonvulsants

Anticonvulsants typically have narrow therapeutic windows. When levels are too low, the risk for seizure remains present. Drug levels that are too high can depress the central nervous system and may even lead to coma.

Examples of anticonvulsants that are monitored by TDM include:

  • Carbamazepine (Tegretol)
  • Valproic acid (Depakene)
  • Phenytoin (Dilantin)
  • Phenobarbital
  • Primidone (Mysoline)
