Collecting Blood: Blood Cultures

Equipment

  • These items are needed to obtain a blood culture specimen :
  • Gloves (sterile if available)
  • Alcohol pads and sterile gauze pads
  • Tourniquet and iodine swabs
  • Blood culture bottles
  • Syringes, needles, and/or evacuated tube system.
