Measures of Central Tendency

Mode

The mode is the value that occurs most frequently in a data set. There can be more than one mode, if there are two or more values that are tied for being most likely. The properties of the mode are:

  • requires no calculation
  • not necessarily unique
  • very insensitive to extreme values
  • may not really be close to the center of the distribution
