Graphing Frequency Distributions

Frequency tables are usually converted to graphs since graphical information is easier for people to understand. There are three common types of distributions; the type of data determines which one to use. The three types are:

  • bar chart
  • histogram
  • frequency polygon
An example of each type follows. Notice that in each case, the classes appear on the x-axis, and the frequency of that class is on the y-axis.
