Introduction to Reagent Strips

Specimen Collection, Processing and Disposal

  • The urine specimen should be collected in a clean container and examined as soon as possible after voiding.
  • If testing will be delayed more than two hours after voiding, the specimen should be refrigerated immediately.
  • Allow the specimen to return to room temperature before testing.
  • The general procedure for using a reagent strip is outlined in this exercise. Each test on the strip will be discussed in detail in the remaining exercises.
