Its main function is circulate oxygenated blood from the lungs to various organs, and return blood depleted of oxygen to the lungs, where it is reoxygenated.

| Sickle Cell Anemia Sickle cells can be seen in the peripheral blood of patients who have homozygous sickle cell anemia; however other tests are needed to make the diagnosis.
