| Secondary Hemostasis – The Common Pathway Thrombin, after its conversion from prothrombin, catalyzes the conversion of fibrinogen into a fibrin monomer. Additionally, thrombin triggers the conversion of factor XIII into factor XIIIa which forms covalent bonds that crosslink and stabilize the fibrin monomers.
